Websites break too easily. But how is this possible when the website was working perfectly last week, or last month, or last year?
If you were accessing the program directly, from the computer where the files existed, as long as the computer’s hard drive, RAM and processors were still running efficiently, you probably would not notice a difference.
Still, you might. Your expectation of speed and logic may change over time given your experience with other systems, including websites. What you would not have expected last month, or last year, you might now expect.
Websites originate on at least one computer somewhere in the world. While more robust solutions will serve a website from multiple computers in multiple locations to overcome this, computers and their parts wear out and can fail. Plus, they all rely on electricity and ISP broadband, which can also fail.
Aside from that, the end user (or client) relies on a separate computer and separate software (a browser) to retrieve and display each web page. These systems can have restrictions or glitches, especially as they age and are not updated.
It is a wonder that so many websites work so well!
Seriously though, proper care of websites can minimize perceived and real breakages of websites.
As servers upgrade, new restrictions and code obsolescence effects software running on the hardware and relying on platform software such as PHP, MySQL and Javascript.
